About The Artist

(Are we keeping Artist On The Bluff? If so will pop in some geographical etc explanation as well of this meaning of the name?).

Meet Paul, also known as "The Artist on The Bluff." For him, art isn't just about creating beautiful images; it's about capturing life as he sees it. His pieces are like snapshots of moments that have caught his attention over the years. Paul states of his work that it’s simply life through his eyes, ‘they’re just things that have been getting my attention through the years’.

Paul's process is as spontaneous as life itself. He draws in the moment, aiming to finish before the event he’s drawing at ends, ‘not wanting to add anything that wasn’t in front of him at that moment.

After having created art every week for many years, Christine thought it might be time to try and start selling some of the huge catalogue of art he had created, if even to just make a little bit of space… “The one thing I can say is the drawings were not drawn to be sold. I don’t think, oh if I make this blue it will sell better”. Despite spending decades producing sketches, paintings, and photographs,he never intended to sell his work. To him, art is not a commodity but a genuine reflection of his experiences.

Christine, Paul's daughter, affectionately calls him "The Great Observer." Whether at a protest or simply people-watching, Paul immerses himself in the scene, capturing its essence on paper. Paul is known for posting up and being a fly on the wall, finding a place to get a view of the crowd and just drawing in situ. His drawings serve as time capsules, preserving moments that he believes society may otherwise forget too quickly, ‘because we’re so quick now to move on from things’.

Through Paul's eyes, we're reminded to pause and appreciate the world around us, cherishing even the fleeting moments that shape our lives.
